TASTI D-LITE, PLANET SMOOTHIE CHAIRMAN JIM AMOS ANNOUNCES THE PROMOTION OF

PETER D. HOLT TO PRESIDENT AND CEO

Franchise Leader, IFA Hall of Fame Member Moves on to

Focus on Other Endeavors

(Franklin, Tenn.)---Franchise leader Jim Amos announced he is stepping down as CEO of Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie at the end of 2012 to move forward with other endeavors, including serving on the boards of various franchise companies and his advocacy in franchise and veterans’ affairs.  Following Amos’ departure as CEO, Peter D. Holt, the company’s current Chief Operating Officer will be promoted to the role of President and CEO.  Peter brings more than 25 years of franchising experience to the company.

Amos, a franchise community leader with more than 30 years of experience, has been CEO of Tasti D-Lite LLC since 2007, when New York-based private equity firm Snow Phipps Group acquired the company.  In November 2011, Tasti D-Lite acquired national smoothie franchise Planet Smoothie, launching a new co-branding initiative.  Amos will stay on as Chairman of the company and as an Operating Partner of Snow Phipps Group.

Amos was inducted into the International Franchise Association (IFA) Hall of Fame in February 2012, the highest recognition offered in the world of franchising.  The award was presented to Jim in recognition of his strong leadership experience, contribution to humanitarian efforts, and his personal contributions to the world of franchising.  Amos has served in numerous leadership positions with IFA, including the role of Chairman in 2001, as well as having contributed to veteran outreach efforts and participated in mentorship programs.  He also received the 2012 Nashville Business Leader Legend Award.

Before taking over Tasti D-Lite, Amos was chairman and CEO of Mail Boxes Etc., where he grew the brand into the world’s largest franchisor of retail business, communication and postal service centers with more than 4,000 locations in 80 countries.  Amos was instrumental in the company’s sale to UPS, whereupon the system was renamed The UPS Store.  Previously, Amos was CEO of Brice Foods, a franchisor of multiple food and beverage businesses, where he led the growth of the company’s “I Can’t Believe It’s Yogurt!” concept to more than 1,300 international locations.

Jim has become a sought after speaker and writer.  His latest book co-authored with BJ Emerson and published by McGraw-Hill, The Tasti D-Lite Way: Social Media Marketing Lessons for Building Loyalty and a Brand Customers Crave has been met with critical acclaim. “I am looking forward to continuing to speak and write, working on my new book, The Journey, focusing on my blog, www.JimAmosBlog.com, and remaining active in the franchise community through board work and participation in private equity,” Amos said.

In addition to his role at Tasti D-Lite, Amos currently serves as Chairman of the franchise advisory board for Agile Pursuits Franchising, Inc. (a Procter & Gamble company).  Amos is the author of several other books, including The Memorial, Focus or Failure: America at the Crossroads, and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Franchising.  Amos was also a contributing author to The Transparent Leader, Corporate Giants, Above and Beyond, You Can Do It, The Entrepreneurs’ Creed, and Living An Uncommon Life.  Amos is a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam.  He received 12 decorations including the Purple Heart and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.  Amos has been recognized for his support of veteran franchisees, and Tasti D-Lite was named a 2012 “Military Friendly Franchise” by G.I. Jobs Magazine.

PLANET SMOOTHIE LAUNCHES LEMONADE DAYS OF SUMMER

Unique Lemonade Smoothies Available for Limited Time

(Atlanta, GA)---Planet Smoothie, which serves real fruit smoothies with low calorie, low sugar and high protein options, has launched “Lemonade Days of Summer.” The promotion will feature three new lemonade smoothies from June 11 through Aug. 5
The “Pucker” is made with lemonade, raspberries and orange sherbet. The “Squeeze” is a classic lemonade smoothie, and the “Crunch” is made with creamy yogurt and crunchy granola. Planet Smoothie will also highlight its existing “Lunar Lemonade” smoothie—which is made of lemonade, bananas and a choice of strawberries or raspberries—in July.
“Lemonade is a classic summer treat that kids and adults both enjoy,” said Donna Smith, vice president of marketing. “Our fun new lemonade smoothies are perfect for summer. We think they will be a great treat for customers looking for a unique snack or meal replacement.”

Atlanta, Ga.-based Planet Smoothie offers customers a quick, portable snack or meal replacement with their real fruit smoothies. The menu is organized into lifestyle categories like protein, weight loss, energy, wellness and cool blended. Planet Smoothie has more than 100 units in operation, mainly in Georgia and Florida. The brand was acquired last year by Franklin, Tenn.-based Tasti D-Lite, the great-tasting, lower-calorie frozen dessert chain with a fanatical following among health-conscious consumers as well as celebrities. Now that Tasti D-Lite is the official franchisor of Planet Smoothie, the collaboration will offer dual brands, with Tasti products being added to selected Planet Smoothie stores, and Planet Smoothie’s offerings to join the menus at some Tasti D-Lite locations.

TASTI D-LITE, PLANET SMOOTHIE DEBUT IN WALMART
First 3 Walmart Locations to Open May 21

(Nashville, TN)---Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie will open their first locations inside of Walmart Tuesday, May 22. The franchised co-branded centers will open in three Nashville, Tenn.-area Walmarts—the Charlotte Pike Walmart (7044 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, Tenn.), the Smyrna Walmart (570 Enon Springs Road East, Smyrna, Tenn.) and the Lebanon Walmart (615 South Cumberland Street Lebanon, Tenn.). All three locations—which replace the old portrait studios—are immediately inside the grocery store entrance.
The Walmart locations are also some of the first co-branded Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie centers. Tasti D-Lite, the great-tasting, lower-calorie frozen dessert chain with a fanatical following among health-conscious consumers as well as celebrities, acquired Planet Smoothie, which serves real fruit smoothies with low calorie, low sugar and high protein options, last year.
The area developers for the Walmart locations are Scott Hughes and Benton Tatum, who have been granted nontraditional growth rights by Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie. They currently own Tasti D-Lite locations on Duke University’s campus and on the Georgetown University Law Center campus with another location set to open in Baltimore Washington International Airport this summer. Hughes and Tatum plan to open an additional 20 Tasti D-Lite/Planet Smoothie centers inside of Walmart locations across the country this year and up to 100 across the country next year.
“I believe nontraditional units will be a focal point of franchising given the current economy,” Hughes said. “For quick-serve restaurant franchises, it is the most cost effective way to open and it comes with built-in traffic in an under-served market.”
The Tasti D-Lite/Planet Smoothie centers inside of Walmart will offer a discount to Walmart employees. They are also giving a 20 percent discount to anyone with a valid military ID on Mondays for “Military Mondays.”
“The military discount is a great way to honor the men and women serving our country,” Hughes said. “Nashville is a great military town and we wanted to make sure we gave back to the military in some way.”
“We chose Tasti D-Lite because of the excellent product and the top-notch management team,” Hughes said. “Combining the brands is a great opportunity for separate and consistent revenue streams. We are hopeful that the Walmart locations will be as successful as our college centers.”
Since its inception in 1987, Tasti D-Lite’s popularity has grown largely by word of mouth and has resulted in a huge base of raving fans who line up day and night to get their favorite guilt-free treat, available in more than 100 flavors. In 2008 the company launched its first franchise program. Since then, the company has grown to 60 locations across three countries and has already secured commitments to open more than 500 locations around the world in the coming years. In December 2011 Tasti D-Lite acquired Planet Smoothie which has more than 100 units in operation, mainly in Georgia and Florida. Over the coming months, Tasti D-Lite products will be added to select Planet Smoothie stores and likewise, Planet Smoothie menu offerings will be made available to Tasti D-Lite locations. The two brands are poised for growth throughout the U.S. and around the world with plans to build a global franchise network through a combination of single- and multi-unit franchises, area developers and international master franchises. INTRODUCING JIMAMOSBLOG.COM
Franchise Leader and IFA Hall of Famer Shares his Wisdom

(Nashville, TN) After more than 30 years in franchising, Jim Amos, CEO of Nashville, TN. based Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie has been convinced to share his wisdom via a blog of his own.
“While I do love to communicate with people, and I participate in many speaking engagements, this was just not something I considered. My full time responsibilities as CEO of Tasti D-Lite, Planet Smoothie and as an Operating Partner of Snow Phipps Group, have not left me with a lot of spare time.  But others really encouraged me to utilize this 21st century form of communication,” shares Amos.
So many people were looking to Amos for advice via phone calls, e-mails and more that his staff finally convinced him that a Jim Amos blog would do much to improve the demand on his time.
http://jimamosblog.com is now up and running and filled with Jim’s experiences from his days in the military to today as the most recent recipient of the International Franchise Association’s Hall of Fame award.
“I hope some of the thoughts and experiences that I share will help others as they make key decisions in their lives,” concludes Amos.
One of the very first announcements on the new blog is that of the publishing of The Tasti D-Lite Way: Social Media Marketing Lessons for Building Loyalty and a Brand Customers Crave. The book, published by McGraw-Hill, is scheduled for fall of 2012 release and will share the tale of the digital journey of the Tasti D-Lite brand. It is written by Jim along with Tasti’s social media guru BJ Emerson.

TASTI D-LITE ACQUIRES PLANET SMOOTHIE FRANCHISE SYSTEM
Dual-Branding Intended to Drive Growth

(Franklin, Tenn.)---Tasti D-Lite, the lower-calorie frozen dessert chain catering to healthconscious consumers has announced the acquisition of Planet Smoothie, LLC, a franchise system with more than 100 units in operation, mainly in Georgia and Florida.  Planet Smoothieis a national franchisor and consumer products business which sells smoothies and all-natural snacks to health-conscious consumers.  The strategic acquisition, which closed on November 30, will allow both brands to broaden product offerings, improve retail sales and accelerate unit growth through co-branding initiatives and non-traditional development opportunities.

“This acquisition presents an opportunity to combine two iconic brands to create a winning combination for both the customer and the franchisee,” said Jim Amos, chief executive officer of Tasti D-Lite.  “The consumer profiles of Tasti D-Lite and Planet Smoothie are very similar, so combining the two complementary brands will provide both brands an opportunity to increase the scale of the combined store network as well as sales at the store level.

”Over the coming months, Tasti D-Lite products will be added to select Planet Smoothie stores and likewise, Planet Smoothie menu offerings will be made available to Tasti D-Lite locations.  Tasti D-Lite’s core frozen dessert products will be made available to Planet Smoothie customers utilizing self-serve machines.  “We are giving our consumers even more reason to visit our stores,” Amos said. “By adding a product line that enhances Planet Smoothie’s menu, we are adding a new component that broadens the offering to the consumer.

”This acquisition is Tasti D-Lite’s latest initiative focused on increasing growth through the pursuit of non-traditional development methods.  Earlier this year, the first drive-thru Tasti D-Lite location opened in Columbia, Missouri, and the first on-campus store was opened at Duke University.  In addition, Tasti D-Lite introduced its first self-serve model to the brand’s long-time full-serve model, and also introduced their first “store-within-a-store” location on Las Vegas Boulevard.  Following this transaction, Tasti D-Lite plans to offer new franchisees the option to own and operate in a co-branded store concept, which fully integrates both brands into a unique customer experience.

“Combining these brands will add value for our franchisees, which in turn will allow us to accelerate the growth of our store network” Amos said. “We are thrilled to have acquired such a compelling brand with great promise that complements our product offering.”

PLANET SMOOTHIE LAUNCHES PLANET PRO:  NEW PROTEIN MEAL REPLACEMENT

Planet Pro Smoothies are a Nutritionally Sound Option for Healthy Living

ATLANTA (March 8, 2011) – Planet Smoothie, a Petrus Brands company intent on redefining the smoothie category, announces the launch of Planet Pro - a protein meal replacement powder.  Planet Pro is offered in light and regular formulas both of which can be utilized as meal replacements based on their protein, calories and carb counts.

Planet Pro Light features 25 grams of protein; 160 calories; two grams of sugar; and seven grams of carbs.  Planet Pro offers 40 grams of protein; 250 calories; three grams of sugar; and 12 grams of carbs.

“Planet Pro was specially designed for improved taste and blends perfectly with consumer’s made-at-home smoothies or Planet Smoothie’s in store fruit choice,” says Bonnie Rhinehardt, president of Planet Smoothie.  “Both the light and regular formulas provide a creamy texture vs. the typical gritty/chalky consistency found in many meal replacement options available in the market today.”

In addition, both products feature a time release protein blend, which promotes rapid recovery and fuels hours of muscle growth.  Both Planet Pro Light and Planet Pro can be used before and after intense workouts or as a meal replacement.  Planet Pro blended with fruit is ideal as it is nutrient dense, limited caloric intake, highly absorbable and will maintain the levels of protein, carbs and calories needed to jump start a day.

According to a Perdue University study (2007), additional protein resulted in post-meal feelings of fullness and improved overall mood.  The study also states that fruits are essential to the body because they are a good source of fiber, vital vitamins, dietary minerals, and antioxidants.
